Salon Des Refuses
Steamworks Brewing Company
May 27 – June 25
In addition to monetary sponsorship of the Annual Juried Exhibition, Steamworks Brewing Company Inc. has traditionally hosted a “Salon des Refuses” for those works that will not be exhibited in the Barbara Conrad Gallery. DAC would once again like to honor this tradition and have a full complement of artwork (2-D only) in this alternate venue. Exhibit dates are the same as those for the DAC Annual Juried Exhibit. Submitting works for the “Salon des Refuses” is at the personal risk of the artist. DAC is not responsible for loss or damage to the artwork. Should your work not be juried into the Annual Juried Exhibit, and if you wish to participate in the “Salon des Refuses,” please indicate so on the entry form.

Juror
Holly Roberts (Corrales, NM)
Holly Roberts, born in Santa Fe, New Mexico, earned an M.F.A. from Arizona State University. Tempe, in 1981. Her pieces are nationally and internationally exhibited and have been published in three monographs. She has twice received National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships. She currently lives and works in Corrales, New Mexico with her husband, Robert Wilson.
Roberts works intuitively, painting an abstract painting on a panel before applying her signature photo fragments. She uses muted colors of paint and black-and-white photographs to create images that are filled with humor, irony and mythology. Her metamorphic beings illustrate archetypal emotional or dream states, although her subject matter has expanded from the internal to a wider worldview, touching on religion, technology and the environment. Roberts art is bold, a bit brash and almost always irreverent. Her work can be found on her website: www.hollyrobertsstudio.com

Workshop with Holly Roberts
Putting it All Together : Painting and Collage
Saturday, October 8 & Sunday, October 9, 9am – 4pm
Students will combine photography and photo-based processes with different materials to build unique mixed media works in this short, weekend workshop. Working with transfers, water-based paints and adhesives, laser and ink jet prints, and any found or made material, students will incorporate a series of materials into their collages. They will prepare paintings as backgrounds to adhere photographs, drawings, paintings and just about any collage material they can come up with. Techniques taught will include polymer transfers, the use of water based paints, correct gluing techniques, substrates and composing and building an image.
