This musical takes audiences into the minds and hearts of each character, presenting their family’s story with love, heart, and humor.

Next to Normal is a powerful rock musical that digs into the lives of a fragmented family grappling with crisis and loss. The story centers around a mother who struggles with worsening bipolar disorder and the effects that her illness and its management have had on her family.  This musical’s graceful, brutally honest, yet humorous handling of grief, mental illness, and ethics in modern psychiatry has expanded the scope of theatrical subject matter and transformed the possibilities of the American musical.  Nominated for 11 Tony Awards and winner of three, including Best Musical Score, as well as the 2010 Pulitzer Prize.
