The Friends of the Art Library are pleased to present a solo exhibit of artwork by local artist Julia Klema.

Through alternative process photography, printmaking, and writing, this show explores a profound encounter between human and landscape. Drawing on imagery from rivers canyons throughout the americas, this work catalogues a way of knowing generated from a deep connection to these wild and dynamic places.

Julia Klema is a printmaker, photographer, writer, and lover of wild landscapes. Her creative work focuses on exploring the experience of landscapes as they are defined by rivers, water, and watershed systems. In her work she draws on the textures, tones, colors, and shape that imbue these places with their visual and physical impact. This work is in dialogue with larger conversations centered on human relationship to environment. She is currently a Masters of Fine Art Candidate in Printmaking at the University of Colorado where she teaches and pursues her artistic research.

Artist Workshop – FULL / WAITLIST

Exploring Color Layering and Texture through Monotyping

Saturday, January 13, 2018
9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (lunch break from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m.)

DAC Members: $85 / Non-Members: $100

Students will explore a variety of monoprinting techniques including color reductive printing from plexigless, collograph printing, and the use of stencils to create complex and beautiful prints. This workshop will also teach basic registration techniques, use of a roll and pin press, hand printing, and layering multiple colors onto prints. These techniques offer a wide range of expressive possibilities and applications that can be used across media. They also require limited supplies and studio space, so are easily done from your home studio!

Materials supplied by instructor:

  • 7” x 9” plexiglass
  • Acetate for making stencils and registration
  • 3 full sheets of Arnheim printmaking paper
  • Akua ink: primary colors, black, white
  • Paper towels, baby wipes, Q-tips
  • Newsprint
  • Gloves

A $25 material fee will be paid to the instructor at the start of the workshop

Participants SHOULD bring:

  • A few simple drawn images to work from Sharpie Marker
  • Scissors
  • Apron
  • Ruler

Participants can bring (if you have them):

  • Additional Akua Inks
  • Brayers and/or palette knives Baren
