STILL OF THE NIGHT

As we enter into the season of long hours of darkness, I have gathered a collection of night-time inspired paintings for this exhibit: Still of the Night.  Over the years I have reflected on and been inspired by the stillness of the night skies. I am fortunate to have nightly star-viewing opportunities at my home, and its inky black expansive horizon has presented itself in some way in each series of work I undertake, both literally and figuratively. While the pieces here in this collection are from different series, the vein of quiet and solitude of nights’ reverie reflects throughout.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Formal education includes a BA in Art from Goshen College in Goshen, IN and an Artist-in-Residence at Patchwork Central in Evansville, IN. I have since settled for the past 22+ years outside Durango, Colorado with my husband, two daughters and an energetic yellow lab responsible for many long walks on the dirt road. For years a self-proclaimed city-girl, I have come to embrace the wind-swept skies and the silent roar of the grasses as the backdrop for my home. It is my love of travel, to places near and far, this country and beyond, that strikes the balance between the two. The lovely Smiley Building in Durango is home to my studio, where I process it all.
