Our History

Conceived by local artist Mary Ellen Long and former DAC director Brian Wagner, the Art Library was established in 1998.  Primarily dedicated to the ‘book’ and its importance in our culture, early exhibits encompassed related media: artists’ books, calligraphy, printmaking, and photography. Exhibiting artists in a variety of disciplines offered workshops and lectures to the community. The library has become a valuable resource for art books, periodicals and other media given by generous donors.

Our Mission

Curate six exhibitions a year.

Select local, regional, and national artists of varying disciplines.

Host solo shows by Fort Lewis College professors, adjuncts and former students.

Sponsor hands-on workshops and lectures.

Coordinate with exhibiting artists and DAC education director to create opportunities for community members to access highly accomplished artists in the field of applied art.

Maintain a resource of art-related print material.

Offer the general public access to a collection of art books covering early art periods, master artists and photography, contemporary art forms and out-of-print books.

DAC members may check out publications.

Non-members may explore the materials in the confines of the library.
