Jane Steele has resided in Durango since 2001 when she arrived with her husband and children. Jane’s background includes a BFA in drawing and painting from the University of Northern Iowa, art education certification from Florida State University and subsequent teaching experience as well as a career in graphic design (working in Florida, Oregon and California).

Jane became the founding teacher of the Durango Arts Center’s Girls’ Opportunity through Arts and Leadership (GOAL) program which began in 2002, and recently launched the Boys Art Camp (BART) in 2015 for middle school boys. Both programs provide unique hands-on visual and performing arts opportunities as a means of self-expression for middle school girls and boys, led by working artists from the community. Jane has been a member of F.O.A.L. since 2007. Her work has been featured in numerous group shows as well as a 2015 solo show in the F.O.A.L. gallery.
