Triple Jeopardy

Barbara Conrad Gallery

Opening Reception, Friday, June 7th, 2019, 5-7pm

“The goal of this gallery is to show what it means to be in “triple jeopardy” and how it influences me as an artist and my artwork. As a gay, indigenous woman I am more likely to be in peril compared to other demographics and I draw strength and inspiration from my identity rather than being limited. It’s not the only thing, but it is a major part of my art and myself. The proposed show would have 2D and 3D works and would take up the entire space, while providing enough space for the audience to walk around.

I want to show both 2D and 3D works within the space, predominantly black and white with some color. There would be 7 2D works hung around the gallery. Of them are the series: “Modern Day Saints”, female Saints embodying the issues women go through today, such as “Our Lady of Self-Mutilation”, a total of 5 drawings. An installation piece on the windows, a woman walking through trees covered in eyes with wolves lurking called “Hunting”. “Hell”, 32 by 56 inches . The 3D works would be five masks, each one an emotion I have felt put up, along with a surreal ‘Self Portrait’.”
